VENTURA, CA – In a rematch with one of the best teams in the state, the SBCC women's volleyball team (12-10, 6-2) was defeated by Ventura (20-1, 8-1) on Tuesday in three sets on the road, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.

"We fought hard in each set, and played the entire match close, but at the end of the day Ventura was able to terminate more balls than us leading to their win," head coach Kat Niksto said. "Our middles Karoline Ruiz and Birdie Zevenbergen were both working hard blocking along the net, and attacking when our passing allowed it. We served well for the match which was a nice improvement to see from our Moorpark match last Friday."

Opposite Caroline McCarty led the team with 10 kills. Ruiz went for five kills and a match-best three blocks.

Defensive specialist Gabby Russell finished with a team-high seven digs.
