SBCC sophomore Katelynn Womack has been named Player of the Year in WSC North women's volleyball and seven teammates made all-conference.
Womack, a 5-9 outside hitter from Rio Mesa High in Camarillo, was also selected to the All-State team. She led the conference in kills with 305 and was third on the team with 257 digs. She had nine double-doubles this year and set single-match career highs with 21 kills vs. Fullerton on Sept. 19 and 27 digs vs. L.A. Pierce on Oct. 30.
Womack is the fourth straight Vaquero to win the Player of the Year, following in the footsteps of Jenna Anderson (2012), Eryn Young (2013) and Madelon Leiphardt (2014). Womack was a 1st-team All-WSC choice last year and needs 10 kills to reach 600 for her career. She's also 34 digs away from 500.
Outside hitter Shannon Friend, libero Tristen Thompson and middle blocker Hannah Cantrell made first-team All-WSC.
Friend, a 6-foot freshman from Sonora, Calif., was second on the team in kills with 304, just one behind Womack. She was No. 4 in the North Division with a .295 hitting percentage. Thompson, a sophomore from Newport Beach, is second in the state with 487 digs (4.9 per set).
Cantrell, a 5-11 freshman from Santa Ynez High, led the conference in total blocks (95) and solo blocks (40).
Outside hitter Kaitlyn Clemann and setter Shiloe Parsons made the second team while middle blockers Paige Sabin and Isabella Thompson were honorable mention. Clemann had 159 kills and Parsons is No. 4 in the state with 856 assists.
Ed Gover was named co-Coach of the Year with L.A. Pierce's Nabil Mardini. It's the fifth time Gover has been named Coach of the Year.
The Vaqueros (23-3) won their fourth straight WSC North title (11-1) and are seeded No. 1 for the Southern Cal Regional. This is their seventh straight playoff appearance. They'll host No. 16 Mt. San Antonio (18-5), the South Coast Conference runner-up, in a first-round match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
