At this year's 3C2A Convention, Sean Ortiz, SBCC Men's Golf, and SBCC Women's Swim & Dive will be honored for their 2022-23 academic achievements.

Sean Ortiz has been selected as a member of the 2022-23 3C2A Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for his athletic and academic achievements at Santa Barbara City College. Ortiz, a middle blocker on last year's Men's Volleyball team, earned this recognition from a pool of 24,000 3C2A student-athletes. He started all 18 matches for the Vaqueros in 2023, tallying 86 kills (3rd on team) and 51 blocks (2nd on team). Needless to say, the entire SBCC Athletics department is incredibly proud of Sean for this tremendous honor and accomplishment.

The Vaqueros also earned a couple team honors, with the Men's Golf and Women's Swim & Dive teams selected as California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Team Recipients for the 2022-23 Academic Year.

Men's Golf finished with a 3.47 GPA overall, with 6 out of 12 players earning a 3.5 or higher. On the course, the team wasn't bad either, winning first place at the 2023 WSC Finals. Ryan Gay and Caleb Rodriguez also took home individual honors, placing first and second in the Finals, respectively.

Women's Swim & Dive finished with a 3.38 GPA overall, with 13 out of 22 players earning a 3.5 or higher. 4 players had a 4.0 GPA. Part of the ever-dominant Aquatics program, Swim & Dive won their eighth consecutive WSC Championship in 2023, finishing first at every WSC meet along the way. Isabella Urlando was named WSC Swim & Dive Athlete of the Year after breaking conference records in the 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, and 100 Butterfly.

All will be acknowledged at the 3C2A Scholar-Athlete Luncheon on March 27, part of the Convention which takes place in Sacramento. Santa Barbara City College Athletics congratulates all of our honorees for fulfilling the department's mission of students reaching their goals through rigorous academic and athletic preparation.
