SBCC rapped out 12 hits on Thursday and Blake Corsentino pitched seven solid innings in a 10-1 rout of Oxnard at Pershing Park.
Seven of the nine batters had at least one hit for the Vaqueros (7-5, 1-1), who picked up their first WSC North win. Oxnard fell to 3-10 and 1-1.
The Vaqueros reached double digits in runs for the fifth time in 12 games.
First baseman Jacob Bravo led the offense, going 2-2 with a two-run homer, an RBI double and three runs. He reached base four straight times as he was hit by a pitch in the third and walked in the seventh. He drove in the Vaqueros' first run in a three-run first inning when Kyle Froemke and Bravo hit back-to-back doubles.
Ryan Guardino reached on an infield single in the fifth, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. One batter later, Bravo drove a ball over the right-field fence for his fourth homer of the year, stretching the lead to 5-0.
"We tried to stay simple and hit some balls the opposite way and stay through balls," said Bravo. "We struggled at Oxnard (in a 3-1 loss on Tuesday), then we all figured it out together today."
Bravo, a sophomore from St. Bonaventure High, is batting .333 overall. He likes playing at "The Persh" where he's hitting .467 in five games with three homers, seven RBIs and a 1.200 slugging percentage.
Bravo is second in the state with four homers and Guardino is fourth in California with 11 stolen bases.
Corsentino (3-2) had his longest outing of the year, tossing seven innings and giving up one run on nine hits. He struck out eight and didn't walk a batter.
"I felt good and relaxed with good tempo ... I was trying to keep them off-balance," said Corsentino, a 6-4 sophomore right-hander from Ventura High. "It makes it a lot easier when we're swinging the bats like we did today. I kept them off-balance with changeups and packed a fastball when I could."
Brandon Lawrence made an outstanding play to stop a first-and-second situation with two outs in the fourth. He dove for Anthony Magdalena's grounder up the middle, jumped to his feet and fired to third baseman Zach Jensen, who got Raul Sandoval in a rundown. Catcher Alonzo Rubalcaba made the third out when Sandoval went out of the baseline trying to reach home.
Shortstop Trevor Davis was 3-3 and Noah Williamson went 2-3 with a two-run double in the eighth. The Vaqueros scored three in the seventh with Rubalcaba driving in two on a single to center field that made it 7-1. Bravo scored his third run on a wild pitch to stretch it to 8-1 after seven innings.
"We came out with much better energy and intent to compete than we showed on Tuesday," said SBCC coach Jeff Walker. "I think conference kind of surprised us all because it came so early this year with the addition of another team.
"Blake was sharp on the mound and the defense behind him did a good job of playing catch. The ability to score first and keeping them off the scoreboard were the keys.
"We're 1-1 and now we have the opportunity to win the series. Hopefully, our work getting to the bullpen will pay off on Saturday because they don't have as many arms to throw."
Left-hander Charlie Montano went the first six innings for Oxnard, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits. Three relievers allowed five runs on four hits in two innings with three walks.
The Vaqueros will play the third game of their WSC-opening series on Saturday at Oxnard, starting at 1 p.m.
