Hutchins scores 18 in 72-60 loss to Bakersfield

SBCC was outshot 56.3 to 40 percent on Saturday in a 72-60 loss to Bakersfield at the Santa Monica Tournament.

Jaylunn English had 16 points and six assists for Bakersfield and Jamar Hammonds added 13 points off the bench. The Renegades led 37-26 at halftime.

Robert Hutchins led the Vaqueros (0-2) in scoring for the second straight game. The sophomore guard from Bismarck, N.D., tallied 18 points on 8-14 shooting and added five rebounds.

Dondre Butler had 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Former Santa Barbara High star Ben Clay contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Vaqueros won the rebound battle 35-31 and had more offensive rebounds (18) than defensive (17). They outshot the Renegades from the 3-point arc (7-18 to 4-11) but Bakersfield made nine more free throws.

SBCC travels to Torrance to take on El Camino on Friday at 3 p.m.
