Men's Golf Wins 3rd in State Championship at Sandpiper

GOLETA, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Men's Golf team placed 3rd at the 3C2A State Championship on Monday at Sandpiper Golf Course.

After being the last squad from the South Regional (4th) to advance, the Vaqueros followed it up with an even better performance at State.

"Another tough match with a lot of great competition," head coach Ernie Carrasco said. "We played as a team and each player pulled through when needed to clinch 3rd place!"

After shooting a 382 as a team on Sunday, SBCC was tied for 4th of 8 teams going into round two on Monday.

Then, a trio of Vaqueros shot under 80 on the final day. Jacob Aaron's 72 was tied for 4th among all golfers on the day.

Jack Blinderman followed with a 75, and Vicente Rodriguez shot 77.

Theodore Lohrer's 81 and Michael Gentry's 82 clinched an overall score of 769.

2 strokes ahead of 4th-place Napa, the Vaqueros earned a top-3 finish in the state. It is the best finish for the Vaqueros since 2019, when they placed 2nd.
