Vaquero Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Rio Hondo

WHITTIER, Calif. – In its second straight road affair to open the season Friday night at Rio Hondo, the SBCC men's soccer team remained unscathed in the loss column as it played the Roadrunners to a 0-0 draw.

"The men competed very well against competitive opponents," head coach John Sisterson said. "We created a number of chances in the first half and were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions."

Fresh off their explosive 4-1 season-opening win at LA Harbor last Friday, the Vaqueros (1-0-1) ended the day with 19 shot attempts, 12 of which came in the opening half.

On the defensive end, goalkeeper Sunny Dhaliwal finished with five saves.

"Sunny was called upon and made a great save to keep the scores level," Sisterson said. "Offensively, it was the same thing in the second half. We had a number of good chances, hitting the post and bringing out good saves from the Rio Hondo keeper, but we just couldn't find the back of the net."

This marks the fourth straight season that the Vaqueros have gone undefeated through their first two matches.

SBCC opens its 2021 home slate on its brand new field with a three-game home stand beginning next Tuesday, Sept. 7 against Taft at 7:00 p.m.
