Repeat Offensive Player of the Year Bart Muns Among Eight All-WSC Vaqueros

SANTA BARBARA, CA – The SBCC men's soccer team made it five straight SoCal Regional trips in 2022, resulting in eight All-WSC selections and back-to-back WSC-North Offensive Player of the Year honors for forward Bart Muns.

Muns becomes the first Vaquero in program hstory to repeat as WSC Player of the Year. Following a stellar freshman campaign, he put up a nearly identitcal stat line in 2022, leading the team with 18 goals and finishing third in assists with six.

After beginning the year with four goals in his first four games, the Holland native would go on to put away four game-winners and register three hat tricks. He went on an incredible one-month run beginning in late September, when he scored 13 goals in just nine games. 

All-WSC First Team
Joep Wouters Van Den Oudenweijer (MF), Lukas Lovgren (MF/F), Timo Jansen (MF)

Three Vaquero midfielders who played a crucial part in SBCC's attacking third represent the squad on the All-WSC First Team. Freshman Timo Jansen only got better as the year progressed, consistently testing goalkeepers as he found the back of the net six times while recording a team-leading 10 assists.

Sophomore Lukas Lovgren finished second on the team in goals (10), assists (8) and points (28), notching two game-winning goals and the only four-game goal of the year in an Oct. 4 win over Citrus. Joep Wouters showed off his big leg while providing great stability in the Vaquero midfield, ending his second year with the team with five assists and a goal.

All-WSC Second Team
Sasha Halabi (D), Oscar Chacon-Gallardo (D)

Defenders Sasha Halabi and Oscar Chacon-Gallardo were reliable all year long in the Vaquero back line. Halabi was unafraid to push up and make contributions on offense, scoring four times and recording three assists. Chacon-Gallardo finished with one goal and one assist, appearing in 20 of SBCC's 21 games.

All-WSC Honorable Mention
Jahir Valdez (D), Will Demirkol (F)

Honorable Mentions Jahir Valdez and Will Demirkol round out SBCC's All-Conference representatives. Valdez was one of five Vaqueros to play in at least 20 games, tallying a goal and two assists. Demirkol continued to be dangerous on either wing in his sophomore year, finishing third in goals with eight to go along with four assists. His 20 points ranked fourth on the team.
