SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Vaqueros men's and women's soccer teams earned Western State Conference (WSC) and California Community College Soccer Coaches Association (CCCSCA) achievements for their performance in the 2024-25 season.
Freshman Cara Christopherson was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the WSC North Division and was also selected to the CCCSCA All-State Team. The Kaysville, Utah, native tallied 10 goals (four game-winning) and nine assists while starting in 22 games.
"I'm so happy for Cara Christopherson. She's our Utah girl, and while we had huge expectations for her, she went above and beyond in her first year," head coach Alex Zermeno said. "Cara is a great teammate, and the staff loves her. She's a hard worker, highly technical, and a complete midfielder who elevates the entire team. We can't wait to see how she'll grow next year with more experience. Remember her name—she's going to be even more special."
Sophomore Alyssa Placido joined Christopherson on the CCCSCA South All-Region Team. The forward scored 15 goals (four game-winning) in 21 games for Santa Barbara and added four assists.
"Alyssa Placido has been an absolute standout for us this year, stepping up in every possible way," Zermeno said. "Leading the team and the conference with 34 points (15 goals, four assists), her stats speak for themselves, but her impact goes far beyond the numbers."
In total, 11 members of the women's soccer team earned WSC North Division All-Conference honors.
For the men's soccer team, the coaching staff was named the CCCSCA South Region Co-Staff of the Year, sharing the honor with Fullerton College. The Vaqueros finished the year with a 12-7-3 overall record, going 8-1-1 in conference play during the regular season.
"Winning SoCal Staff of the Year is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our entire program," Zermeno said. "Starting the season with a challenging 3-5-2 preseason record, we could have doubted ourselves, but instead, we chose to grow, fight, and believe in our potential. Finishing 8-1-1 in conference and capturing the WSC title for the first time since 2017 is a reflection of the hard work of our players, staff, and the SBCC community. This honor is shared with everyone who supported us along the way."
In WSC North-Division honors, Xavier Salisbury was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year with Miles Keane earning Co-Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Salisbury, an Australian native, finished the year with a goal and two assists across 20 games played.
Keane recorded a 2.13 goals-against average and a .738 save percentage on the season. Against conference opponents, his stats improved to a 1.68 goals-against average and a .857 save percentage.
In total, 11 men's soccer team members were recognized with WSC North Division All-Conference honors.
