WSC Coach of the Year 2008, 2011, 2017


Coach Sisterson will enter his 17th season at the helm of the Vaquero men's soccer program in 2023. He notched his 150th victory on Nov. 2, 2018 in a 6-1 rout of Moorpark. John's overall record is 182-81-54 (.659) and he's guided the Vaqueros to the playoffs the last five years and 11 of the last 15.

The Vaqueros qualified for SoCal Regionals for the fifth straight time in 2022 after going 10-5-6 overall and 5-4-1 in WSC play. Bart Muns repeated as WSC-North Offensive Player of the Year with 18 goals and 42 points. It was his second consecutive SBCC top-5 all-time single-season goal scoring mark.

Despite being unable to play in 2020, SBCC didn't miss a step in 2021, posting a 12-6-3 record to reach the 10-win mark for the 11th time in his 14 seasons. WSC-North Offensive Player of the Year Bart Muns was one of 10 Vaqueros to be named All-Conference, tied for the program's second-highest total in 10 years.

The Vaqueros had one of their best seasons in 2017, going unbeaten in their first 21 games (17-0-4) and finishing fifth in the state, one win shy of the Final Four. They won their 10th WSC title (9-0-1) and finished with a 17-1-4 record. The men's squad was also effecient in the classroom, winning the CCCAA Scholar Team award for the best men's soccer GPA in the state.

Sisterson also had a great 2017 season with the Vaquero women's team, guiding them to a 21-1-1 record and a state runner-up finish. He notched his 300th combined win at SBCC with men's and women's victories on Oct. 20.

The Vaquero men earned a NSCAA national ranking of No. 4 and a final national ranking of No. 9. Victor Chavez (16 goals, 38 points) was the WSC North co-Player of the Year, All-West Region and second-team All-American. Sisterson has coached six All-Americans during his tenure as SBCC men's and women's soccer coach.

John led the Vaquero men and women to WSC North titles in 2017 and both were unbeaten (17-0-1 combined). Their overall combined record was 38-2-5. The men and women became the first California Community College to go undefeated in the same regular season (men 15-0-4, women 17-0-1).

John received the WSC Coach of the Year award for the third time in 2017. His combined record at SBCC is 385-150-102 (.720).

Coach Sisterson became the all-time winningest SBCC men's soccer coach on Oct. 11, 2016 in a 2-0 win over Hancock. That gave him 121 victories, one more than Tim Vom Steeg.

The Vaqueros posted the 300th win in program history on Sept. 18, 2015 in a 5-1 victory over Hancock. SBCC's all-time record is 363-152-89.

SBCC went 11-4-6 in 2015, marking the seventh time in nine years that Sisterson has won 10 or more games. Several of his teams have been ranked in the top 5 in the nation. The 2015 squad rose to No. 2 nationally early in the year.

John was named WSC Coach of the Year and NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year after leading the 2011 squad to a 12-1-1 record and their third WSC title in four years. The Vaqueros won three playoff games and reached the State Final Four for the first time in 13 years.

The Vaqueros are the all-time winningest program in the Western State Conference with a .699 win percentage and 10 championships. Sisterson has won 3 WSC titles with an impressive 111-39-33 conference record (.740).

John has also had great success as the Vaquero women's coach. He led them to their first CCCAA State Final Four appearances in 2016 and 2017 and has won the last three WSC North women's titles and five of the last nine years.

Born in North East England, John has vast experience in coaching. He was the Head Coach for the U.S. Women's Olympic Deaf Team that won gold at the Deaf Olympics in Australia in 2005. John has previously coached the Men's & Women's soccer teams at West Texas A&M and also the Upson Lee Men's Team in Georgia, posting a 74-24-4 record, including a Regional Championship and 3 runner-up berths.

John has coached at the ODP level and in Europe, and is also an Associate Staff Coach for the National Soccer Coaches of America. He holds NSCAA (Premier and Advanced), UEFA (Europe), FA (England), and USSF Coaching licenses. Coach Sisterson has a Masters and Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches of America.

Coach Sisterson has led the Vaquero men to three Western State Conference titles (2008, 2009, 2011) and three runner-up finishes. John was named WSC Men's Coach of The Year in 2008 and 2011.

John has 4 children -- Kate, Jack, Lisa and Liam. Jack played at Newcastle United and Leeds United Pro academy teams and also at the University of Louisville D1 in the Big East where he graduated in Equine Science. Jack was the assistant trainer of 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner I'll Have Another.  He was also the assistant trainer for 2016 Kentucky Derby winner, Nyquist.
