SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC men's tennis team closed out a three-match home stand with an 8-1 defeat against first-place Ventura in the Vaqueros' second match of WSC Conference play on Tuesday.
Highlighted by their doubles energy and execution, the Vaqueros were able to get a win from their No. 1 doubles duo of Menno Raeymaekers and Taylor Kleine.
"Taylor and Menno played high-level doubles by keeping pressure on their opponents all throughout the contest," head coach Danny Echt said. "Menno's returns and Taylor's silky touch at the net were a solid combination."
Raeymaekers held serve at love to close out the 9-7 victory, giving the Vaqs their lone point on the day.
In the No. 3 position, Daniel Truong and Santiago Maldonado stayed in contact the entire pro set, holding serve two times to push the match to a tie break before being defeated.
The Vaqueros will hit the road for their next match at Bakersfield on Thursday, Mar. 16 at 2 p.m.
