GLENDALE, Calif. – Santa Barbara City College men's tennis opened WSC North Conference play with a hard-fought 6-3 loss to Glendale College on Thursday.

The Vaqueros secured one of the three doubles points, with Dom Arnel and Mauritz Seitz earning an 8-5 victory at the No. 1 doubles position over Glendale's Ridaoui and Tinajero.

"Dom and Mauritz played very well at the beginning and end of the pro set," said head coach Danny Echt. "They stayed on the front foot, particularly on second shots after returns and serves. Their chemistry, communication, and energy are improving, which makes them a very dangerous doubles tandem."

Seitz continued his strong play in No. 1 singles, delivering a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win over Glendale's Nicodemus.

"Mauritz has been working on freeing up his motion when he earns the offensive position in rallies, and today was a great display of trust in that process," Echt said. "It's a pleasure to watch him be patiently aggressive."

At No. 6 singles, freshman Loris Alem showcased his creativity and variety in a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Yang.

"Loris hits a really clean ball, and his variety came in handy today as he made his opponent uncomfortable," Echt said. "He stayed mentally engaged in both singles and doubles, which allowed him to anticipate well and use his excellent touch on drop shots and angle volleys."

Santa Barbara falls to 0-2 on the season and will host Ventura College at Pershing Park next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
