SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College men's tennis team defeated Fullerton College 8-1 in a non-conference match at Pershing Park.

The Vaqs came out on their front foot in doubles on all three lines today. The freshman duo of Anton Dahlen and Loris Alem paired together at No. 2 for the first time this season and employed a good first-strike mentality with positive combination play. At No. 3, Ada Guler and Jakob Koeniger pulled away after a close start to take the pro set 8-4.

In singles, No. 2 Loris Alem won against David Guiterrez, 6-2,6-3.

"Their points were solid as both players demanded that the other cover a lot of shorter angles," said head coach Danny Echt. "It was entertaining as both players pushed each other deep into rallies."

Vaqueros' singles line No.6 Jakob Koeniger had a great day in singles and doubles, showing patience and coming forward in his singles victory over Gomez, 6-0, 6-4.

"In doubles, we executed our strategy well, poaching at the net whenever possible and playing aggressively," said Koeniger. "I put a big emphasis on my footwork which was helpful because of the windy conditions. Huge credit to the team for keeping our composure and grinding through. We're ready to take this two-match win streak momentum into Monday's match."

The Vaqueros improved to 4-6 on the season and will host Orange Coast College on Monday at Pershing Park at 2 p.m.
