Giulio Giordani dominated the pole vault on Friday and Ryan Sorensen ran away with the 5000 meters to highlight SBCC's performances in the WSC Relays men's track and field meet at West L.A.

Giordani, a sophomore from Santa Ynez High, equalled his all-time best of 4.5 meters (14-9), which was nearly two feet higher than the runner-up, Adam West of Canyons (3.9m, 12-9.5). Sorensen won the 5000 by 16 seconds in 15:46.45. Jacob Schroder was fourth in 16:16 and Ytxzae Enriquez took sixth in 16:44.

"Throughout the week, our focus was to continue building endurance and strength and prepare to be in a competitive mindset heading into the meet," said coach Scott Santella. "Our guys did a great job executing the techniques we have been working on and the performances showed.

"Freshman Ryan Sorensen came out for his first track competition since 2014 and destroyed the competition in the 5000, finishing in front of the second-place runner by over 16 seconds. Not far behind Ryan was Jacob Schroder in 4th place and Ytxzae Enriquez in 6th."

Drew Klassen placed fifth in the discus with a personal best of 39.70m.

The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC North meet on Friday at Bakersfield.
