SBCC Nearly Wins Set One, But Falls in Three at Long Beach

LONG BEACH – The SBCC men's volleyball team was couldn't slow down Long Beach on Wednesday, taking a 3-0 defeat on the road, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18.

The Vaqueros (2-5) couldn't get into a rhythm offensively, being held to a .123 team hitting percentage. The Vikings (7-1) meanwhile hit at a .406 clip and turned in 11 service aces to SBCC's two.

Santa Barbara was led on offense by opposite Kevin Vonyokes, who had team-highs of nine kills and five digs. He also added one block assist.

Right behind Vonyokes on the stat sheet was outside hitter Payton Miller with four kills and four digs, both second-most on the team.

Middle blocker Andre Doty went for two kills, two digs and three blocks, including two solo blocks. Outside Brigg Busenhart had three kills, three digs and a block assist.

Setters Carter Cottrell (12 assists) and Toby Still (10) both reached double-figures.

As a team, the Vaqueros had more digs (20) than LBCC (166).
