MOORPARK, Calif. – It was a tough day for the Santa Barbara City College women's basketball team as the No. 14 Vaqueros fell to No. 4 Moorpark, 66-29.
Santa Barbara struggled offensively despite playing rugged defense and sacrificing their bodies for loose balls. In the third quarter, the Vaqueros prevented Moorpark from scoring more than a single field goal for nearly seven minutes.
The Vaqueros shot a season-low 26.7% from the field – well below their season average of nearly 40% – in what was an uncharacteristic performance. Aariah Fox led the team with eight points.
"Everything was off today," head coach Sandrine Krul said. "One of the weirdest games I have coached in a decade."
Santa Barbara is now 17-5 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
"Now we have to put that game behind us. As I always say, you either win or you learn, so we learned," Krul said.
The Vaqueros will look to bounce back Wednesday against Oxnard College.
