VENTURA, Calif. – The Vaqueros' stellar season continued Saturday as they earned their first victory at Ventura College since Dec. 3, 2010, with an 86-68 win.

Kaylee Lawson scored the first five points of the game, and Santa Barbara never looked back, ending the first quarter with a 23-16 lead. Lawson finished the period with eight points.

The Vaqueros flexed their defensive strength, holding the Pirates to just four points in the second quarter and entering halftime with a 30-point advantage.

"[Assistant coach] Joe'Randle came in with a game plan that we worked on for two days to be more efficient on offense and defense," said head coach Sandrine Krul.

While Santa Barbara was outscored 48-36 in the second half, its early dominance provided enough cushion to seal the win.

The Vaqueros finished with five players in double figures. Lawson recorded 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and six steals. Kaylee Bosetti led the team with 21 points, including four 3-pointers, and five steals.

Isis Poteet had an all-around performance with 12 points, eight rebounds (four offensive), five assists, two blocks and a steal, while Kennedy Nutter added 15 points and three steals.

Jaden Bone provided an offensive spark off the bench, making six of seven shots from the field for 12 points.

"Jaden played stellar on offense and defense," said Krul. "She had multiple deflections that led to steals."

Santa Barbara improved to 19-5 on the season and 7-2 in conference play. The Vaqueros return to action Wednesday at LA Mission College.
