Ventura, Ca. On a beautiful for golf, the SBCC Women's Golf team showed and showed out at Olivas Links Golf Club in Ventura, Ca for the Western States Conference #4 event, hosted by College of the Canyons. Heretofore, the Vaqueros best finish had been 3rd place in both WSC #'s 2 and 3, but this day was different as 3 of the countable scores were in the 80s with the 4th and lowest number coming in at 76.

Freshman Sophie McCoy got things cooking early with a front 9 38 including a birdie on #9. After stringing together several pars, and one unfortunate double bogey on #13, McCoy finished birdie/birdie which included sticking a pitching wedge on #17 to one foot. "Sophie seemed very determined and focused today, and was able to stay in the moment all the way through the round, closing with those 2 birds," said head coach Devin Engebretsen.  "Tee to green, she played great." McCoy's 76 was tied for overall 2nd place, one shot off the indivudal medal.

Coming in with a pair of 87's were sophomores Megan Duncan and Emily Ruiz. "I thought Megan had a tremendous day off the tee. Every shot I saw she was long and straight and in a good position to score," added Engebretsen. "Emily was very steady as well and did a great job of staying away from those big numbers that sometimes hurt her." Freshmen Kimberly Liby brought home the posting with an 88, bringing the team score in at 338, good for 2nd place, only 4 shots from College of the Canyons and 1st place.  Freshmen Amaya Urquidez and Ella Arce came in with scores of 97 and 108, respectively.

SBCC currently sits in 3rd place overall in the WSC with a record of 16-8, just behind Moorpark College (19-5) and COC (23-1). The Vaqueros next travel to Antelope Valley College for WSC #5 played at Antelope Valley Country Club.
