Golf Finishes in 2nd, Qualifies for SoCal, Places all 5 Golfers as All-Conference

The 2024 Vaquero Women's regular season came to a close on Monday as they finished up their campaign at the WSC Finals hosted by Citrus College. The event was played at Marshall Canyon Golf Course on Day 1, and San Dimas Golf Club on Day 2. SBCC ended up the conference season with a firm hold of second place, finishing with an overall record of 45-9.  Moorpark College won the conference championship going 54-0 on the season.  With the second-place finish, the Vaqueros qualified for the SoCal Regionals (to be played November 10/11) which will determine if they qualify for the State Championship. "I think overall it was a great season by our players, never losing to any other team in conference except Moorpark. Coming in 2nd Place and qualifying as a team for SoCal is a great accomplishment, and I think we have an excellent chance to make it to state," said head coach Devin Engebretsen. In addition to the team accomplishment, Vaqueros saw all 5 athletes make the all-WSC First Team.  To be a member of the all-conference team, the athlete must finish in the top 10 of scoring within the conference.  "I am very proud of all our ladies for making the all-conference team. It's rare when you place the entire team on this list," added Engebretsen. Freshman Annie Betts led the Vaqueros in scoring with an average of 73.14, good for overall second place in conference. Freshman Kirra Petty (86.71), sophomore Kimberly Luby (87), freshman Mylie Pavelis (90.14) and sophomore Ella Arce (90.71) rounded out the conference finishing in places 7-10.

The Southern California Regional Championship begins Sunday, November 10 and concludes the following day. Participating teams include Moorpark, SBCC, College of the Canyons, Mt. San Antonio College, Orange Coast College, Cuyamaca College, Desert College and Fullerton College.  The top 5 teams will qualify for the state championship, and the next 10 best scoring individuals will qualify if their respective team does not.
