Vaqueros Land 12 All-WSC Selections, Pule Repeats as Goalkeeper of the Year

SANTA BARBARA, CA – Following a season in which it won another Western State Conference Championship and advanced to the SoCal Regional Semifinals for the fourth time in its last five campaigns, the SBCC women's soccer team took home 13 All-Conference selections, including a second straight Goalkeeper of the Year award for Analea Pule.

After becoming the first Vaquero ever on the men's or women's side to earn WSC Goalie of the Year honors in 2021, SBCC's reliable final line of defense did it again in her sophomore year. The Orcutt, CA native started every contest once again, registering clean sheets in 10 of 20 games.

Pule began the year by holding three consecutive opponents without a goal. Two more November shutouts in the WSC Championship clinching victory over Moorpark and 1-0 SoCal Regional Second Round win over Southwestern sent the Vaqueros to the semis having allowed just one goal in over 500 minutes of game time. She ended the season with 77 saves, a remarkable 0.50 goals allowed average, and a .885 save percentage.

All-WSC First Team

Santa Barbara had five representatives on the All-WSC First Team, including four sophomores. Defender Sarah Hardin played a big role protecting the net in SBCC's back line, starting in 17 games and scoring one goal.

Everytime they stepped on the pitch, forwards Theresa English and Sofia Orozco were two of the most dynamic attacking players in the entire Vaquero lineup. English led the team in overall points (21), scoring six goals and finding teammates all year long with a team-high nine assists – six more than any other Vaquero.

Orozco missed six games to start of the year, but would return on a mission, totaling six goals and two assists in just her first four appearances. She finished second on the team in points (16) and had a Vaquero-best seven goals for the season.

Hanna McClain was one of three Vaqueros to start in every match, finishing third on the team in points with four goals and a pair of assists. She put in the game-winning goal in a 3-1 September win over conference rival Ventura with a tidy shot into the far post just before halftime. Fellow midfielder Gizela Zermeno was the lone freshman of the bunch, starting in 17 games and recording two assists.

All-WSC Second Team

Four more Vaqueros graced the All-WSC Second Team, including three more players who contributed greatly on the defensive end in Citlali Zambrano, Bella Loflin and Hanna Crawford. All four Vaquero Second Teamers found the net at least once, led by midfielder Dakota Thyssen's two goals and three assists.

Thyssen's seven goal contributions were tied for fourth on the team. She had one game-winning goal alongside Crawford and Loflin.

All-WSC Honorable Mention
Athena Bow Graham (F), Aly Springer (F)

Sophomore forward Aly Springer consistently showed up in the attacking third, including a season-opening performance against LA Harbor where she had one goal and one assist. She finished the year finding the back of the net on three occasions.

Forward Athena Bow Graham rounds out the Vaquero honorees after scoring once and tallying three assists in her freshman year.
