LONG BEACH - The SBCC swim team had a great first outing of the year on Friday, competing in the unscored, preseason Larry Baratte Memorial WSC Preview meet in Long Beach.
"It was a great day for the Vaqueros," head coach Chuckie Roth said. "I am encouraged by our performances and I am excited to help each student-athlete improve as a person and athlete."
With 17 student athletes in uniform, the Vaqueros had the largest team at the competition. Leading the way for the Vaqueros was Ensley Letterman, who finished first in the 50 Freestyle (25.62s), fourth in the 100 (56.82), and second in the 500 (5:42.70).
Elina Borghoff took second in the 100 Breaststroke (1:12.55) and third in the 200 IM (2:28.36). Alexis Persoon won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:11.44 and finished sixth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.13).
Chloe McKay also had some big swims, taking sixth in both the 100 Freestyle (59.66) and the 100 Backstroke (1:13.77). Newcomer Marily Weaver had a great outing, placing 11th in the 50 Free (27.99) and 15th in the 100 Free (1:04.97).
On Thursday, the Vaqueros will head to WSC #1 at Valley College. The competition is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
