BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Women's Swimming & Diving team placed first at WSC #1 hosted by Bakersfield, scoring 278 points.

"The girls swam great today," head coach Chuckie Roth said. "I'm very encouraged by this group; they're training very hard and becoming more and more of a team out of the water."

Reminiscent of last week's Larry Barrate Preview, the Vaqueros dominated once again. Of the 14 women's events, SBCC finished first in 12 of them. 10 different Vaqueros took home first place honors, with 16 finishing in the top 3 of any event.

The Vaqueros had 5 different events where they placed first, second, and third in—1-Meter Diving, 200 Back, 200 Free, 100 Fly, and 100 Back. In 6 different events, they had 2 of the top 3 finishers—200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 200 IM, 1650 Free, and 200 Breast.

Erin Otsuki led the charge with 4 first place finishes. She placed first individually in the 50 Free (25.36) and 100 Back (1:02.26) and was a member of the first place 200 Medley Relay (28.55 backstroke split) and 200 Free Relay teams (25.86 split).

Maddie Myers also was on the first place 200 Medley and 200 Free Relay teams and won the 100 Free at 55.71.

Lily Carrick also had 3 first place finishes, one as a member of the 200 Medley team and also in the 200 Free (1:59.72) and 100 Fly (1:01.91).

"Caroline Oates had a very good outing winning the mile in her first ever performance," Roth said proudly. "Addie Lane, also swimming [the mile] for the first time, captured second place." Oates' time was 19:25.95, while Lane's was 19:58.77.

"Swimmer of the meet would go to Kate Densmore. Best times on the day," Roth added.

Densmore had a 35.28 split in the breaststroke portion of the second place 200 Medley Relay team. She also earned second in the 200 Breast (2:57.72), and third in 100 Breast (1:19.35), shaving off nearly 4 seconds from her time last week of 1:23.19.

"Next week we had to the Mt. SAC Invitational, which should be a great test to see how we stock up against some of the best teams in the state," Roth concluded.

As Roth alluded to, the Vaqueros are back in action next Friday and Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.
