Vaqueros dominate singles, hand Bakersfield first loss, 7-2

SBCC went 5-1 in singles on Tuesday en route to a 7-2 win in a WSC women's tennis match at Bakersfield.

It was the seventh straight win for the first-place Vaqueros (9-1, 7-0). The second-place Renegades (6-1, 3-1) suffered their first loss in seven matches.

Victoria Dafos, Jule Lauinger and Maddie Mitchell posted easy wins at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles. Jamaica Buyse won the fourth point with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) triumph at No. 2 and Anya Nicolaides secured the winning fifth point by rallying to beat Alexis Strange 7-6 (5), 2-6, 7-5.

"Overall the girls showed their strength and performed under pressure when they needed to," said coach Christina Klein.

The Vaqueros will open the second round of conference on Tuesday, March 5 when Ventura comes to Pershing Park for a 2 p.m. match.
