SBCC swept the No. 2 through 6 singles on Tuesday, dropping just six games on the way to an 8-1 win over Ventura in the WSC opener for both schools at Pershing Park.

They started with the three doubles sets and SBCC (1-1, 1-0) captured those 8-3, 8-3 and 8-1.

"We started with doubles strong across the board and won handily," said coach Christina Klein. "Then we took care of business in singles at the 2 through 6 spots."

Maura Mannix and Sydney Paillon both posted 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at No. 2 and 6, respectively.

"Kelly Coulson at No. 1 singles lost a close two-set match, 6-4, 7-5. This match could have easily gone to three sets and I definitely look forward to the rematch for Kelly. Overall, we are looking strong and have the depth on our team to go far this year."

The Vaqueros will make the long trek to Antelope Valley on Thursday, then host Orange Coast in a non-conference match on Friday at 2 p.m.
