Shoelle Bruhin and Christy Chavira grabbed fifth place in the 400 and 1500 meters, respectively, on Saturday in the 43rd annual CCCAA Women's Track & Field State Championships at College of San Mateo.

It was a cold, rainy day with temperatures in the mid-50s.

Bruhin bettered her season best from a week ago with a 58.02 clocking in the nine-woman 400 final. That's No. 8 on SBCC's all-time list. Daryia Greene of Sacramento City won in 56.04.

Chavira, a sophomore from Righetti High, ran in a four-woman breakaway group for most of the race and finished fifth in 4:55.73. She was edged out by Hartnell's Monica Ruelas by .34 seconds for the last All-American spot.

Brenda Rosales-Coria of West L.A. won her second straight state title in the 1500 in 4:48.49. She also won the 800 later in the day.

Cerritos captured its eighth state title and fifth in the last seven years with 111 points. Riverside was second at 82.5 and West L.A. took third with 72.
