SBCC suffered its first two losses of 2017 on Saturday, falling to Bakersfield 3-0 and host L.A. Pierce 3-1 in the Pierce Kickoff Classic women's volleyball tournament at Woodland Hills.
The Vaqueros (2-2), who were seeded No. 2 in the eight-team tourney, were swept by the Renegades 25-18, 25-17, 25-18, then dropped the third-place match to the Brahmas 16-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17.
Carolyn Andrulis led the Vaqueros against Pierce, pounding 11 kills and digging 14 balls. Kaylene Ureno had five kills for SBCC, which hit just .086 for the match. Avery Mulvey added 11 digs and Grace Trocki had six blocks.
SBCC returns to action next Saturday in the Bakersfield Quad, taking on the host Renegades at 10 a.m. and MiraCosta of Oceanside at 2 p.m.
