Gabi Brewer and Madi Mullins both posted season highs of 15 kills on Friday night but SBCC still came out on the short end of a 3-1 women's volleyball loss to No. 24 Golden West in Huntington Beach. The scores were 26-24, 25-17, 24-26, 25-13.

The Rustlers are 5-0 and the Vaqueros fell to 1-6.

Brewer had eight digs and three aces while Mullins hit .345. Bella Brandt was the dig leader with 16 and Lauren Wold had 42 assists.

"I'm disappointed in our step backwards tonight in our level of play and consistency," said Vaquero coach Kat Niksto. "We will always have some kind of adversity facing the team this season and nothing is going to be easy. I'm looking for who steps up when times are tough instead of making excuses.

"After a long van ride, we got off to a slow start in set one and still battled to tie the match 24-all. Then two unforced errors and we let the set slip away. I told the girls they are going to get sick of hearing it over and over, but we have to control what we can control on our side of the net. Tonight was another reminder that nothing comes easy at the college level, and we are still learning how to put the work in before, during, and after the match to achieve the level of success I know these girls want."

The Vaqueros will travel to Antelope Valley on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
