SBCC got off to a slow start on Wednesday night and never recovered in a 3-0 women's volleyball loss to Antelope Valley in Lancaster. The scores were 25-16, 25-16, 26-24.

The Vaqueros (1-7) had 21 kills and 21 errors for a .000 hitting percentage. AVC improved to 3-5.

"I give credit to AVC tonight, they played every point hard and they were the better team," said coach Kat Niksto. "We came out very flat in sets 1 and 2 and couldn't execute our game plan."

The Vaqueros enjoyed substantial leads in the third set and had set point at 24-18. But the Marauders reeled off eight in a row to secure the victory.

Madi Mullins led in kills with seven while Gabi Brewer and Makenzie Phelps had five apiece. Casey Crockett returned to play her second match and recorded 14 digs.

Lauren Holsted, the Vaqueros top hitter, only played the back row due to a shoulder injury. Bella Brandt, who played libero in the last five matches, moved to outside hitter and contributed three kills.

"Ironically it was one of our better passing matches but our offense couldn't find any rhythm and we hit zero for the match," said Niksto. "We will head back into practice tomorrow with a renewed focus and keep trying to improve all aspects of our game."

The Vaqueros will host Santa Monica on Friday at 6 p.m.
