Gabi Brewer and Madi Mullins recorded 11 kills apiece on Friday but it wasn't enough to prevent Ventura from posting a 3-0 sweep in the season finale at Ventura. The scores were 25-22, 25-18, 25-18.
They both had double-doubles with Brewer collecting 12 digs and Mullins notching a season-best 13 digs.
The second-place Pirates (13-9, 8-2 WSC North) outhit the Vaqueros .310 to .167. After starting out 1-7, SBCC went 7-7 the rest of the way to finish 8-14 overall and 4-6 in conference.
"Gabi and Madi led us again tonight and both played all six rotations," said first-year coach Kat Niksto. "In game 1, we were executing our game plan fantastically and really controlling the tempo of the game. However, just past the halfway point, we started to falter in serve receive and when you give an experienced team an opening, they jump all over you and pulled out the win.
"After that, we put together bursts of good play, but at the end of the day didn't have enough depth to be able to play as consistent as we need to in order to start producing the wins we want.
"We are now officially in the off-season, and mental prep for next season starts tomorrow. We are driven to build on this team and work harder and smarter next season."
