On Wednesday, the Vaqs were on the road again, this time at LA Pierce. SBCC showed up and took care of business with a 3-0 sweep by the scores of 25-9, 25-16, 25-18. The Vaqueros were efficient from the service line, with a season high 15 team aces. Those efforts were led by Libero Valeria Bellodas who had 5 aces on the night, to go along with her 9 digs. The offense was led by Lina Husek with 9 kills, and Kaylin Cooney with 8 kills while hitting .500%. Coach Niksto said, "I was proud of how our team played tonight, everyone got their time on the court, and we communicated well and played clean volleyball."
On Friday night, the Vaqs were finally back home and celebrated their Sophomore Night! With a pre-game ceremony, the 9 Vaquero Sophomores were honored with their family and friends in attendance. Then SBCC took the court and played another solid match with a 3-0 sweep of Allan Hancock by the scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-20. Another aggressive serving match saw the Vaqs producing 13 aces on the night. Once again the serving efforts were led by Valeria Bellodas, who had another 5 aces night. With the first ace, Valeria passed the former single season aces record from 2015 of 54 aces, and finished the night at 59. Coach Niksto said, "Such a fun celebration of all of our sophomores tonight, it's such a special group of players. It was also fun to get to celebrate Valeria's single season record - she is such a phenomenal player, who is beloved by all her teammates. It was a great way to finish our conference play!"
The Vaqueros officially finished in 3rd place in the competitive WSC North Conference. Up next, they will take on the 3rd place team from the WSC South Conference, Bakersfield, in a rematch from their rescheduled match loss just last week. Coach Niksto says, "I'm so excited for our Tuesday Conference Crossover match! It's the last prep for the playoffs, and we are looking for a little revenge versus Bakersfield after not bringing our best when we played them just last week."
After that, the Vaqs will await their playoff draw, with the Seeding Meeting happening Thursday Nov, 21st.
