Lily Carrick's hat-trick goal with 4:51 left in the fourth quarter provided the Vaqueros with insurance as they bested San Joaquin Delta College 12-9 on Thursday, Nov. 21, in the 3C2A State Championship Quarterfinal match in Long Beach. Addie Lane paced Santa Barbara with seven goals while adding a pair of assists and four steals. Kate Densmore recorded eight saves and six steals in goal for the Vaqueros. Sofia Paez was a defensive stalwart, adding five steals of her own. Carrick opened the scoring for the match with an unassisted goal with 5:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Mustangs responded with a pair of goals before Lane scored her first goal with 2:00 left in the opening frame with an assist from Cate Daland.
Lane took charge in the second quarter, scoring three goals in the frame and a tally from Jada Ashen for a 6-3 lead heading into halftime.
Both sides kept pace in the third quarter for a 9-6 score heading into the final frame. San Joaquin Delta scored two goals just 40 seconds apart early in the fourth quarter to put pressure on Santa Barbara, 8-9. That's when Carrick scored her third of the contest to go up by two before Lane found the back of the net a couple more times. "I'm proud of my girls for finding a way to win. I thought Addie Lane and Kate Densmore played phenomenally," said coach Chuckie Roth. "I am beyond proud of this team, because of what they stand for, how they compete, and who there are as individuals."
