Kelly Gardner placed 61st on Friday in the WSC Preview women's cross country race at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.
Gardner, a freshman from Santa Ynez High, covered the hilly 5K course in 27:33 on a hot day with temperatures in the 90s. Seline Keller was 69th in 29:53.
The Vaqueros only sent out two runners due to injuries and illness.
Angelica Salas of Glendale was the individual winner in 19:09. Ventura edged Glendale for first place, 46-51, and Canyons took third with 57 points.
The Vaqueros will run in the Tour de Cuesta on Friday, Oct. 6 in San Luis Obispo.
