SBCC's Christy Chavira placed 26th in the WSC women's cross country championships on Friday at Bakersfield. She covered the 5K course in a season-best 20:33 and qualified for the Southern Cal Championships in two weeks at Canyons.
Chavira, a sophomore from Righetti High, had a 48-second improvement on her time from last year on this course. It was the sixth-fastest time by a Vaquero on the course.
Brianna Valencia of Oxnard won the WSC title in 18:18. Glendale took the team title with 44 points, followed by Canyons (70) and Ventura (83).
Kelly Gardner was 77th for the Vaqueros in 25:11. Seline Keller was 78th in 25:27. All three Vaqueros posted season-best times.
Chavira will compete in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 3 at Central Park in Saugus.
