SBCC's defensive woes continued on Friday in an 8-0, five-inning loss to Chaffey at Pershing Park.

The Vaqueros (4-12) had more errors (6) than hits (4) in the non-conference game. Olivia Calderas tossed a four-hitter for the Panthers (6-15).

"That's not what we were looking for at all," said SBCC coach Justine Bosio. "I think we're pressing too quick and not sitting and thinking about, 'OK, if the ball comes to me, what am I going to do?' It's about being totally present on every pitch, kind of like what we talked about yesterday. There's a lot of little things we need to clean up."

Last Saturday, the Vaqueros scored 25 runs while going 1-1 at the Orange Coast Tournament. On Thursday and Friday, they managed just two runs on 10 hits in losses to Oxnard and Chaffey.

America Dominguez and Alexis Allison both went 2-3 with two RBIs to pace Chaffey's 10-hit attack.

SBCC got two runners on in each of the first three innings but couldn't get them home. Cheyenne Walker, Emily LoneTree, Taylor Tibbels and Sinai Miranda singled in the first, second, third and fourth frames.

The visitors from Rancho Cucamonga took a 2-0 lead in the second. Nalissa Garcia led off with a triple to right-center and scored on a single by Allison. Allison was picked off first by catcher Skylar Gothan and got in a rundown before first baseman Alexandra Berg hit her with a throw, sending Allison to third. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Calderas.

The Panthers added six runs in the fourth on four hits, three errors and two walks. Dominguez drove in two runs with a double to left field.

Carson Dunckley pitched five innings for the Vaqueros, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts and five walks.

"We were missing an outfielder today and Paige Powell is injured, so Carson was the only person who could pitch," said Bosio. "No matter how much they hit her or whatever happened, she was not coming out of the game. So when we make three errors in one inning, that's a lot on a pitcher who can't come out.

"Our job as coaches is to teach the girls the game and how to overcome adversity. We're trying to constantly teach them through everything that we're going through. Hopefully, this was the bad week to get out of our system and we'll be good to go for next week."

After playing 12 of the first 16 at home, the Vaqueros will hit the road for seven of their next nine contests. They'll return to WSC North action on Tuesday at Moorpark with the first pitch at 2:30 p.m.
