SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The day after a tough loss to Ventura College, Santa Barbara City College bounced back to a 13-8 win over Santa Monica College at Pershing Park on Tuesday.
Sophie Ward earned the win in her first start of the season, striking out seven while allowing two earned runs over five and two-thirds innings.
The Vaqueros jumped out to a seven-run lead in the first inning. Amarise Camargo delivered a bases-loaded double that brought in three runs, Aleena Madrid added a two-run single, and Alena Johnson followed with a two-run triple.
The Corsairs rallied and trailed by just one run in the top of the sixth as Ward battled through fatigue. Johnson then came in from the bullpen and shut things down, tossing one and one-third scoreless innings to earn her first save of the season.
SBCC gave itself some breathing room in the bottom of the sixth thanks to Maite Juarez, who lined a two-RBI single to extend the lead.
Mia Reveles had a double and a triple in the win and added two RBIs.
Santa Barbara improved to 9-7 on the season and will travel to Cuesta College on Tuesday.
