Tyler Heil

Tyler is in his first season with the Vaquero softball program after being named interim
head coach in December.

Tyler comes to SBCC from the University of Central Florida, where he was the lead
assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two years. Heil was tabbed as the infield
and catching coach and trained ten All-Conference selections, an All-American, the
2022 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, and the 2022 American
Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Tyler was responsible for heading
back to back nationally ranked recruiting classes with the 16th ranked High School class
in 2022 and the 24th ranked High School class in 2023.

2022 was a banner year for UCF as the Knights finished with a record of 49-14 and
finished the season ranked 14th in the country. Coach Heil was a part of the 2022
NFCA Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year as the Knights won both the AAC
regular season title and the conference tournament en route to hosting the program’s
first ever regional. The Knights beat the University of Michigan to advance to super
regionals where they faced the eventual National Champion Oklahoma Sooners. In
2023 UCF once again won the AAC conference tournament and earned another
regional appearance with a record of 40-21.

Prior to his time at UCF, Tyler was the lead assistant and recruiting coordinator at the
University of New Mexico from 2017-2021. Heil worked under former longtime Vaquero
Head Coach, Paula Congleton. While at UNM, Heil mentored seven All-Mountain West
performers including three athletes that finished their careers ranked in the top 10 for
career home runs, slugging percentage, RBIs, on base percentage and doubles.
Previously, Tyler spent three seasons with the SBCC baseball team; serving as infield
coach (2015), hitting coach (2016), and pitching coach (2017). The Vaqueros won the
WSC North titles in 2015 and 2017; playing in a Southern California regional each year,
including a 5th place finish in 2015. Heil also served as an assistant coach for the
softball program, in 2017, finishing 15-9 in the WSC North and 22-16 overall.

Heil graduated from Reno High School in 2005 and went to College of San Mateo from
2006-2007. Tyler helped lead CSM to a 64-20 record, back-to-back conference titles
and was selected First-Team All-Coast Conference. In two seasons at CSM, Tyler
started 83 games, accumulating 82 hits for a .334 average and committed only 14
errors.

He earned a scholarship to San Jose State University where he was the Spartan's
starting shortstop opening day of the 2008 season and was the starting pitcher in his
last game as a Spartan. San Jose State won the Western Athletic Conference in 2009,
going 41-20 during his senior season. Tyler started games at shortstop, third base and
pitcher that season, hitting .270 and going 4-2 on the mound.

Tyler received a Bachelor's degree in Health Science from San Jose State and a
Master’s degree in Exercise Science from PennWest, California. He went on to play
Independent Professional Baseball for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League
from 2010-2011 and the Ottawa Champions of the Can Am League in 2015.
