White wins top offensive award; 12 Vaqueros make All-WSC North

Mekaylla White was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year on the 2019 All-WSC North women's soccer team. She was one of 12 players from SBCC's conference championship squad to make the team.

White, a freshman forward from Folsom, led the conference in scoring with 19 goals in 22 games. In conference play, she scored 15 goals in 10 games with four hat tricks. Ventura's Sammy Zanini was second with eight goals in 12 games.

SBCC sophomore forward Sean O'Brien was third (7 goals, 5 assists) in conference scoring and earned first-team All-WSC honors. She was joined on the first team by midfielders Lourdes Marin-Rodriguez and Molly Branigan and sophomore defenders Elin Hedstroem and Jessica Salas.

The Vaqueros went 13-7-4 this season, including 9-1-3 in their last 13 games. They won their third straight WSC North title with a 9-1-2 record and captured two playoff wins before falling to eventual state champion Santiago Canyon in the Southern Cal Regional finals.

Second-team honors went to forward Monica Pizano, midfielder Savannah Mohatt and defenders Courtney Cook and Olivia Berntsson.

Sophomore goalie Elizabeth Estrada (conference-best 0.69 goals-against average) and forward Alejandra Alvarez were honorable mention.

Jennifer Perez of Allan Hancock was the Defensive Player of the Year and Hancock's Billy Vinnedge was Coach of the Year.
