SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 15-ranked Santa Barbara City College women's soccer team (9-4-1, 4-0-1) shut out Ventura College (5-6-3, 2-2-1) on Tuesday, earning a 3–0 victory at La Playa Stadium in their conference matchup.
"We wanted to start strong and score early," head coach Alex Zermeno said. "That was our main emphasis in the pre-game huddles."
Santa Barbara opened the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute when Cara Christopherson found the back of the net. Zoe Minnery added a second goal five minutes later, assisted by Olivia Del Castillo. The Vaqueros sealed the win late in the 89th minute when Karissa Terrazas converted a feed from Minnery.
Natalie Gonzalez recorded a clean sheet with two saves on both of Ventura's shots on goal. SBCC outshot the visitors 11–2, controlling possession and emphasizing fast, accurate passing to maintain pressure. Zermeno noted the team's focus on set pieces paid off with the late goal, highlighting disciplined execution and team effort throughout the match.
The Vaqueros remain unbeaten in conference play and will look to extend their streak against the LA Pierce Brahmas on Friday, Oct. 17, at La Playa Stadium in another important conference matchup.
