
SBCC landed eight players on the All-WSC Gold softball team, led by first-teamers Madison McNamee, Monica Salas and Sydney Townes.
2016 All-WSC Gold Team
McNamee is a freshman pitcher from Cabrillo High, went 7-4 in conference with a 2.15 ERA. She pitched a perfect game vs. Oxnard and struck out a season-high 10 in 5 innings on March 29. Townes, a freshman center fielder who also went to Cabrillo High, was the No. 6 batter in conference at .433. Salas, a freshman catcher from Dos Pueblos, hit .373.
Christal Vierra, Alyssa-Rae Jewell, Delainy Ogan and Lauren Ballard were second-team choices. Vierra, a sophomore third baseman, hit .308 in the WSC Gold and was second with 21 RBIs. Jewell, a freshman second baseman from Santa Ynez High, hit .379 and stole nine bases.
First baseman Lauren Bodden made honorable mention.
The Vaqueros (28-11) were seeded ninth for the South Region playoffs and will open a best-of-3 series at No. 8 Grossmont (26-12-1) in El Cajon on Saturday at 2 p.m.
